New Regional Dispatch Center Moves Forward

A year-end deadline passed, and now plans for a new regional dispatch center are powering up. Plans are under way for a new 911 center at the former Mound facility in Miamisburg. The four-story building that will be used for the new center once housed workers who were engaged in making triggers for nuclear bombs. Windows are being added and Montgomery County Sheriff Dave Vore will then move his dispatch staff in. The work is continuing with the addition of pavement on a new parking lot and a new entrance to the building is almost finished, while painters and drywallers are doing their work on the inside.

The man who markets the Mound Advanced Technology Center said bring the dispatch center to the property should be a win-win for the county and taxpayers looking for the best emergency service. The new building is needed because the dispatch center will soon be controlling 911 services and crew movements for not only the county by also for the city of Dayton and every other community that has signed up. Vore said there will be 80-100 dispatchers in the new facility. As the remodeling moves forward, Vore said he may be able to start installing high-tech communication equipment this summer, allowing the center to up and functional by the end of this year. The facility was built in the 1980s for Cold War purposes and is designed to withstand hurricanes, tornados, and wind shears.
