1.   What is the difference between the Mound Advanced Technology Center (MATC) and the

Miamisburg Mound Community Improvement Corporation (MMCIC)?

The Mound Advanced Technology Center is the name of the industrial park at the Mound site. The Miamisburg Mound Community Improvement Corporation is the economic development company formed by the city of Miamisburg to lead the redevelopment efforts.

2. What are the primary real estate offerings at the MATC?

In addition to shovel-ready building sites on our Southern Campus area, we also have a unique mix of office, laboratory and light industrial space available on our North Campus. As the Department of Energy (DOE) continues to complete the transfer of the property, additional land and buildings will become available during the coming year.

3.  What kinds of businesses currently operate at the MATC?

Current tenants on the site are engaged in a variety of innovative scientific research and development as well as commercial application pursuits, with many of them leveraging expert personnel resources, precision equipment, and technology that has existed at the Mound site for numerous years. These include:

  • Power systems and fuel cells
  • Rechargeable energy storage devices and carbon supercapacitors
  • Materials science and electrochemistry
  • Instrumentation manufacturing and systems integration
  • Precision machining of ceramics and metals
  • Ordnance devices and destructive testing services
  • Scanning electron imagery, auger electron, x-ray photoelectron, and energy dispersive spectroscopy

    • Easy access to major shopping centers, restaurants, golf courses and entertainment venues
5. How close is the Mound Advance Technology Center to regional airports, interstates, etc.?

Miami Valley’s resources are close at hand. Key roads and highways -- 1-75, I-70 and the I-675 corridor -- connect near Mound and access to I-71 is nearby. Wright Patterson Air Force Base is just twenty miles away, and the area has approximately 20 universities, community and technical colleges. Dayton, as well as Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky, International Airports are anywhere from a 40 – 55-minute drive. Other major markets, such as Columbus, Toledo, Lexington, Kentucky and Indianapolis are within an easy one to two and half hour drive by car. Truck and rail lines complete the transportation picture.

6. Over how many years is redevelopment planned?
Redevelopment is proceeding in a timely and orderly fashion.  As DOE continues to release land and facilities, they will be converted for reuse. The redevelopment will proceed at a market-driven rate. It is expected that redevelopment of existing buildings will continue for 2 to 4 years after DOE vacates the property, which is now targeted for 2010.
