About Mound
Mound: Where scientific research and technology companies thrive
Vision: The Mound Advanced Technology Center will be a thriving scientific technology and business park widely recognized as a center of innovation and commercialization for emerging energy, advanced manufacturing, materials processing applications and information systems markets.
The Mound Advanced Technology Center is a 306-acre, modern research and technology park located in Miamisburg, Ohio, between Dayton and Cincinnati.
Today, 14 businesses with 310 employees operate at Mound. Most are involved in research, development, testing and production of high-tech products and processes. Some are partnering with research giants such as Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (and its resident Air Force Institute of Technology), and the University of Dayton Research Institute.
Mound's legacy was built on powerful technologies
Mound has a rich history as a former Department of Energy facility where research, development, testing and production of defense weapons components and spacecraft power systems took place during the Cold War, from 1946 to 1993. Mound Laboratory scientists were renowned within the defense complex for their innovations and zero-defect production.
Their work generated breakthroughs in areas critical to the nation’s defense:
- Advanced energy technologies
- Laser technology
- Advanced materials processes
- Advanced manufacturing technologies
- Optoelectronics
- Non-destructive testing
Hydrogen containment
The site’s defense missions ended in 1993. The site then became an incubator to nurture its workforce entrepreneurs and help them develop as business leaders. Today, these businesses continue to innovate and lead within their technology industries.
The Mound property will be owned and managed by the Mound Development Corporation, an economic development organization that oversees redevelopment and reuse.
